The Braes is a Vegan Bed and Breakfast in the Highlands of Scotland, close to the A9 and in the ideal spot for touring the North Coast 500.
With plenty of walking options and wonderful panoramic views of the sea, it makes the ideal base for your Highland Adventure. The peaceful moorland setting is also ideal for those wishing
to get away from it all.
Hearty breakfast and afternoon tea.
All our food menus are fully vegan but that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of choice. We can also provide quality evening meals for
those making a longer stay. If there are certain items you would like us to stock, we can usually accomodate if we are given a little notice.
We go the extra mile to ensure your stay is the best it can be.
For those taking a longer break, we can provide you with many ideas of what to do around the area. No transport? Don't worry, we can help. We will pick you up from the local train station or airport if you require. We can also take you to Berriedale or Dunbeath for the day out. We can even drop you off
at specific points for your walks and provide you with packed lunches.
There is plenty to do and see.
We have a great deal planned for the coming year which includes trips out, vegan cookery help and accompanied walks. If there is something specific you would like
us to provide, let us know and we'll see if we can help.
The Braes at Berriedale Vegan Bed and Breakfast
News and Information
The Braes at Berriedale is situated just north of the famous Berriedale Braes on the cliff top just north of Berriedale. Berriedale is a beautiful coastal settlement on the east coast of Caithness, in the Highlands of Scotland. The Braes bed and breakfast
nestles between the Caithness mountains and the sea and has spectacular views towards the mountains as well as over the North Sea.
The Braes is happy to announce that we are able to offer our first room for bookings. Our Morven room is a double room with en suite complete with king size bed and has fabulous views over the North Sea. The Braes is an ideal place to get away from it but
please be aware that we do not have televisions on site, so if you can't drag yourself away from the 'Magic Lantern' then maybe this isn't the place for you.
If, however, your thing is relaxation, then we can fully accommodate you.
Our second room will take some time to complete but when it is finished we will post the news here.
We have many plans for guests around the grounds as well as the rooms themselves and we have added a booking page so that you can see our availability and book in advance.
If you have any dates you are thinking of or you want to have a chat about your needs, drop us a note from our Contacts and Booking Page and we'll send you some more information and contact details.
In the mean-time you can visit our gallery here or have a look at our 'Activities' page, to see what there is to do around the area.
There is also this excellent website for the John O' Groats Trail for the more adventurous visitors.
Vegan Bed and Breakfast?
So what does it mean being a vegan bed and breakfast? Well, certainly we eat a vegan diet but we also live a vegan lifestyle which means that our whole house and gardens are as much as practicable
based on vegan friendly ethics. Being vegan doesn't mean that food has to be boring, both Peter and Barbara are accomplished cooks and love food which means that not everything we eat is 'healthy', indeed, there is such a thing as vegan junk food!
We don't go as far as deep fried battered sorrel leaves but you get the idea. Certainly at The Braes, vegan or vegetarian, you won't go hungry!
Do we cater for Vegetarians too?
Of course we do, not in the respect of changing menus, but if you are happy to eat vegan for your visit and respect the vegan lifestyle we have then we are happy to take in vegetarian guests. Indeed, our breakfasts are just as tasty and enjoyable without dairy and we still offer a full Scottish or full English vegan breakfast. What's the difference? Oh they are quite different but you'll have to visit to find out why.
