The Braes was bought by Peter and Barbara Gray in September 2018 after they fell in love with the bungalow and the Berriedale area of the Highlands. Peter and Barbara have been vegan for 5 years after being vegetarian for over 25 years.
"We want to offer fellow vegans and non vegans a retreat, somewhere they can relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery or simply lounge in the garden. We want to offer what we would consider a perfect place to enjoy the Scottish Highlands whilst having a great choice of vegan food in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere."
Peter is an author who writes crime fiction, historical novels and plays. He loves to include the Highlands in his books and hopes that he can offer just a little of the area to those not lucky enough to live here. As well as being a great writer, Peter is also a fantastic cook and he often prepares the sumptuous breakfast menu for our guests. His experience in the hotel trade has given them the knowledge needed for such a venture.
Barbara has wanted to run a vegan B&B for a long time and The Braes is exactly what she dreamed of.
"I love the locality, the easy access to the A9 and the fact that we provide our guests a luxurious experience with a good choice of vegan food and drink to keep them happy. I look forward to offering some cookery workshops and advice to any of our guests as I adore cooking." She also runs a highly regarded vegan website and has been giving advice on the vegan lifestyle for many years.
The Braes will be open for most of the year. Peter and Barbara are planning some food based experience weekends including Yuletide, Burns Night and Hogmanay.
About the House
The Braes offers one double room with king size bed and ensuite shower room, and soon, a double room offering a shared bathroom with shower and bath. In the future we hope to expand to three rooms and hopefully an outdoor barbeque hut for our guests to enjoy.
We do have a cat and two hens at the moment so we are unable to offer accommodation for dogs or young children.
Motorcyclists are welcome and we offer shelter for bikes, with drying areas for clothes, loan of tools and advice if needed as Peter is a keen biker himself.
We look forward to meeting you and are always happy to discuss special requirements.
Please let us know if you would like a longer break or even a multi location holiday as we are in touch with most, if not all the vegan B&Bs in the Highlands and the rest of the UK.
We are very biker friendly as we are keen motorcyclists ourselves and we have undercover parking for a few bikes.
There are also basic tools for use too with a drying area for your clothing.
We have an extensive Vegan menu for breakfast and evening meals and packed lunches.
A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for evening meals please. We are sorry but we cannot cater for food allergies as our kitchen handles gluten, nuts etc but we are happy to help with other dietary requirements.
