The Braes was bought by Peter and Barbara Gray in September 2018 after they fell in love with the bungalow and the Berriedale area of the Highlands. Peter and Barbara have been vegan for 5 years after being vegetarian for over 25 years.
"We want to offer fellow vegans and non vegans a retreat, somewhere they can relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery or simply lounge in the garden. We want to offer what we would consider a perfect place to enjoy the Scottish Highlands whilst having a great choice of vegan food in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere."
Peter is an author who writes crime fiction, historical novels and plays. He loves to include the Highlands in his books and hopes that he can offer just a little of the area to those not lucky enough to live here. As well as being a great writer, Peter is also a fantastic cook and he often prepares the sumptuous breakfast menu for our guests. His experience in the hotel trade has given them the knowledge needed for such a venture.
Barbara has wanted to run a vegan B&B for a long time and The Braes is exactly what she dreamed of.
"I love the locality, the easy access to the A9 and the fact that we provide our guests a luxurious experience with a good choice of vegan food and drink to keep them happy. I look forward to offering some cookery workshops and advice to any of our guests as I adore cooking." She also runs a highly regarded vegan website and has been giving advice on the vegan lifestyle for many years.
The Braes will be open for most of the year and Peter and Barbara are planning some food based experience weekends including Yuletide, Burns Night and Hogmanay.
About the House
The Braes will offer one king size room with ensuite and a double room offering a shared bathroom with shower. In the future we hope to expand to three rooms and hopefully an outdoor barbeque hut for our guests to enjoy.
We do have a cat and three hens at the moment so we are unable to offer accomodation for dogs or young children.
"Peter and I are happy to collect our guests from the airport or local rail station and are always available to offer help our guests enjoy the area if they don't have their own transport. We also welcome bikers and offer shelter for bikes, with drying areas for clothes, loan of tools and advice if needed as Peter is a keen biker himself."
We look forward to meeting you and are always happy to discuss special requirements.
Please let us know if you would like a longer break or even a multi location holiday as we are in touch with most, if not all the vegan B&Bs in the Highlands and the rest of the UK.
We are very biker friendly as we are keen motorcyclists ourselves and we have undercover parking for a few bikes.
There are also basic tools for use too with a drying area for your clothing.
Evening meals are not a standard feature of The Braes but for those wishing to stay a little longer, we can offer evening meals (vegan) if it is arranged previously.
